Job Description

On behalf of our client, one of the largest maritime companies in the Middle East, we are currently looking for a talented General Manager Capital Projects, to join its software development team.

A day in the life of a General Manager Capital Projects

Capital Projects General Manager is responsible for the coordination of all activities related to the Capital Project such as JV, IK, Pipe Shop, Blasting amp; Painting, Jigs amp; Fixtures and Tertiary Steel (Capex amp; Budget, Concept, Business Case, Design, Approval, Construction etc.) and ensuring that it is implemented according to design specifications, standards, Company Policy and Quality Management system.

Your day-to-day

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Capital Projects Department Business Strategies from initial Stages/FEED toward completion
  • Consultation with relevant Subject Matter Experts ensuring that recommendations are documented, analyzed, and implemented if deemed appropriate
  • Prepare amp; Review Budget amp; Cost Reports with Project Managers and the finance team to ensure all project targets are being met and risk is being managed and mitigated
  • Prepare and deliver reports/presentations to Executive Management as required
  • Liaise with Government Bodies as required maintaining professional and harmonious lines of communications
  • Evaluate technical amp; operational recommendations and manage the change according to guidelines amp; parameters set by Executive Management
  • Work closely with HSE management to identifying any potential hazards, toward improvement of safe working environment, for all employees
  • Communicate and negotiate with a wide range of project stakeholders
  • Manage the process of the budget forecast for the Capital Projects Department as per business plans amp; demands
  • Manage the process of the budget forecast of demand at facility level as part of the management process
  • Manage, oversee, and maintain the Capital Project Department expenditure in accordance with approved budget
  • Oversee and Direct the Capital Projects such as JV, IK, Pipe Shop, Blasting amp; Painting, Jigs amp; Fixtures and Tertiary Steel (Capex amp; Budget, Concept, Business Case, Design, Approval, Construction etc.)
  • Set Capital Project Department KPI’s, Projects-Milestones and Organization Structure
  • Lead and manage the project management team to ensure that projects are completed in accordance and in compliance with the Company’s contractual obligations, on time and on budget
  • Preside over the Project Management Team daily operations amp; lead the implementation of safety, efficiency planning amp; continuous improvement strategy
  • Develop the Human Capital Team for Capital Project Department (Recruitment process, set goals amp; objectives, initiate IDP for entire department)
  • Oversee the projects activities with all project managers
  • Mentor the Project Management Team toward career development by providing day to day leadership amp; guidance to resolve identified operational and or business issues
  • Guide and assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Construction Management in dealing with any areas of conflict either internally or with Clients
  • Utilize knowledge of asset management standards ISO 55000/1/2 and implement during the project execution phase as necessary
  • Provide the required support and assistance to assets management to standardize the equipment selection throughout the procurement process

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field, preferably in Marine Engineering; having a post-graduate degree in management or business-related discipline or a senior marine qualification or relevant degree is a plus
  • Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience of which 5 years’ experience in project management role in shipbuilding, oil amp; gas, or equivalent industry
  • Certification in CMP/PMP and related specialties, such as Asset Management is a plus
  • Demonstrates ability to listen to the views of others and respond in a logical, well thought out manner without the need to resort to authority
  • The ability to manage large multi-disciplinary teams, across a broad range of technologies
  • Demonstrate the ability to Develop, oversee and control the Capex amp; Budgets requirement for Sr. Management review and approval
  • Understanding of Asset Management/ERP systems, and relevant ISO standards. Computer proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, Project
