Job Purpose:
Manage the entire process of selecting technologies and building applications, supporting junior application development analysts on a day-to-day basis covering the whole spectrum of the development life cycle including the design, integration, migration, deployment, and other technical aspects of development and modifications of applications and information systems in order to ensure the organization’s IT applications support and are aligned to business needs. Manage Wa’ed’s system and network administration function to ensure operability and maintenance of equipment and user accounts.
Functional Duties:
Team Supervision (only for team leaders and supervisors)
Provide guidance and on-the-job training for junior colleagues and conduct knowledge sharing to facilitate achievement of team objectives and completion of tasks in an efficient manner that is consistent with operating procedures and policy.
Budgets and Plans
Monitor the financial performance of a given area of activity versus budgets and ensure all activities are carried out in line with the approved guidelines while promptly reporting on any variances to management.
Application Architecture
- Lead the development of the architecture of a new application or any major enhancements to the existing one, reviewing the design, in order to ensure the application interfaces, connectivity with other systems, compatibility, etc. are all covered.
- Participate in presenting the architecture to the management and end-user in order to gain buy-in and approval of the design
Application Development and Maintenance
- Manage the identification of new application solutions and development of these applications in coordination with the IT division based on the architecture and perform code reviews in order to ensure prompt delivery of the application/product with the highest quality and standards.
- Lead the development of programs/codes for enhancements or modifications to the existing applications, and provide technical guidance in case of bottlenecks in order to ensure robust codes are developed addressing the new requirements.
- Ensure regular backups mechanisms for the applications/products developed are in place to avoid loss of any information/ data used by the system.
Code Check
Oversee the reviewing of application codes and the basic unit, integration, and stress testing and provide possible solutions to bugs detected in order to ensure the application runs smoothly, and without any errors when migrated to a production environment.
Migration
- Lead the migration of the enhancement/ bug fixes, etc. onto the production environment and monitor the activity closely in order to ensure smooth integration with the existing applications and to resolve any issues that arise, on priority to minimize the application downtime.
- Initiate User Training and acceptance testing of applications developed in collaboration with the Quality Assurance section to enable transfer of knowledge on the application and ensure that the users’ requirements are met and they are satisfied.
Vendor Management
- Manage key relations with software application vendors such as Oracle in matters related to the application licenses, performance, technical documentation and manuals, issues, etc. in order to enable a collaborative work environment and quick support provided by the vendors.
- Keep up-to-date with related applications used in similar organizations, performance of vendors, price of procurement of licenses, return on investments, etc. in order to adopt market trends and best practices at Wa’ed.
Project Management
- Determine operational feasibility studies, conduct cost benefit analysis and develop the project scope, to facilitate the development of a comprehensive business case.
- Assist in applying best practices in project management including Planning, Scheduling and Contract Management.
System amp; Network Administration
- Carry out complex aspects of System amp; Network administration related to user accounts and office equipment (desktops, laptops, printers and mobile devices), providing support as necessary to ensure operability and maintenance of equipment and user accounts.
- Manage IT assets and electronic supplies in line with company policies and procedures, addressing in collaboration with senior management any discrepancies in inventory levels for computer hardware and software.
- Develop and monitor quality assurance and control standards/ procedures to ensure compliance of the business processes.
Documentation
Review documents prepared by the Application Developer on technical manuals, code review ch
