Position Description:
We are seeking a Crisis Communication Coordinator (CCC) to join the Media Relations Division (MRD) of the Corporate Communication Department.

MRD is the trusted front-line strategic communications division for corporate-level media relations, helping to position the company as the world's leading integrated energy and chemicals producer.

The Media Relations team functions as the Company's primary point of contact for domestic and international journalists, and helps media and other key audiences to understand and interpret the company’s strategy and business activities in an open, honest, and transparent way. The team optimizes content delivery through converged print, online, and broadcast channels.

The CCC’s primary role is to support the Corporate Communication Department in executing and monitoring communication strategies, managing the crisis communications manual and procedures, and to promptly activate the departments section of the Emergency Message Board System in the event of a crisis incident.

Minimum Requirements:
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Crisis Management or related field, from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.

You will have a minimum 10+ years of experience in Public Relations and Media Relations, gained from either agency and/or in-house corporate setting, ideally in the energy, oil, and gas sector, and at least three years in crisis communication.

In addition, you will have the following:

You will have leadership experience in crisis communication gained through top tier energy companies

You must be a native English speaker, with excellent English writing and presentation skills

You must have experience in managing communication during crisis events in oil and gas fields

You must have experience in developing crisis communication strategies

You are preferred to have a strong background in media relations and serving as spokesperson

You are preferred to have experience in emergency response/crisis management development

You will be able to demonstrate understanding of national and international issues and how they can affect the industry

You will be able to identify, assess and take action against communication and reputation issues

You will be able to lead monthly crisis communication training and drills

Support strategic initiatives by developing, maintaining and testing effective plans including capturing and adjusting from lessons learned

Stay informed of industry best practices and share current issues and trends around crisis management and enterprise risk, and support other departments in training staff

Represent Corporate Affairs during emergency response plan development or corporate drills

Provide support to other corporate organizations as needed in emergency response activities

Proven experience of media handling in crisis situations, with consistent ability to respond calmly and with confidence in a fast-paced environment

Highly organized and detail oriented, with exceptional sense of responsibility and accountability

A self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision and is result driven

Sound judgment underpinned by strong sense of news and appreciation of the news cycle

Strong business acumen and understanding of corporate drivers

Professional gravitas, credibility and diplomacy skills to liaise with senior leaders and executives

Job Specification

Duties & Responsibilities:
Candidate will be reporting to the Head of the Communication Response Center

You will be required to perform the following:

Update the Crisis Communications Manual on a monthly basis, gain approval, and prepare copies for management on a quarterly basis

Assist Corporate Affairs and business lines with their Crisis Communications manuals and training

Ensure that the Communications Response Center and News Monitoring Rooms are running and updated with current technology and equipment

Conduct weekly emergency response systems testing in collaboration with other functions

Respond to incidents or issues that have the potential to damage the company’s reputation

Prepare communications as needed during an incident or threat to the Company’s brand

Support Corporate Affairs strategic initiatives by developing, maintaining and testing plans

Prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives within a busy media team

Ensure communication strategies and plans are fully aligned and integrated with the overall Corporate Communication Strategy and Corporate plans

Leverage available enterprise data and research (e.g., corporate reputation tracking data and stakeholder insights) to inform future communication strategies, content creation and engagement

Development of KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness and impact of crisis communications strategies

Provide functional support and advice on crisis media issues senior leaders in the organization

Where appropriate, attend relevant events, providing support required and ensuring accountability reporting on outcomes of attendance and participation at such events

Support the company’s crisis communications activities, crisis preparedness, and media handling during crisis incidents

Deliver consistent results to an exceptional and consistent standard
